Acton Jennings has acquired validation from nationally known training bodies to provide a number of accredited training courses as shown below.

  • City & Guilds NVQ Levels 3 & 4 in Occupational Safety and Health

    We are a City and Guilds Accredited Centre and operate the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Achievement, which means that candidates working towards the award provide evidence from their normal day to day work, in simple terms this means hazard identification, risk assessment, risk control strategies, communication systems, health and safety policies and procedures, emergency procedures etc.  In this way, the work required to achieve the standards is of benefit to the employing organisation.  However, it is possible to use historical evidence, which meets the criteria, providing that this has been produced within two years prior to the candidate’s completion date. Any shortfalls in the defined underpinning knowledge requirements may be achieved by assignment work where required.  In all cases, Telephone and e-mail support is provided outside of the normal contact periods. We are one of only two centres in the UK which provide an entirely on-line portfolio managment facility. You have e-mail access to our assessors who provide clear advice and assistance in putting together the evidence for your portfolio

    Level 4

    NVQ Level 4 now comprises of ten separate units; each being sub-divided into several elements. The programme is based on HSG65 Successful Health and Safety Management. Successful completion of this qualification is one of the current entry requirements for Grad IOSH status within the IOSH Grading Structure and also provides entry to other Safety Bodies.  The programme is flexible, and will be arranged to suit the needs of each individual candidate.   There is no specific time limit, however, City and Guilds state that the majority of candidates will require twelve to eighteen months to complete. 

    Level 3 

    Our programme consists of five meetings with our Assessors, each of three hours duration.  During these meetings, candidates are given specific guidance on how to plan their evidence; guidance and assistance in implementing new systems etc where appropriate and, of course, the assessment of produced evidence.   The programme is flexible, and will be arranged with the mutual consent of each candidate.   There is no specific time limit, however, the majority of candidates will require twelve to eighteen months to complete.   

    All Assessors hold City and Guilds A1 /A2 or D32/33 Certification relevant to the qualification being undertaken.

  • IOSH - Managing Safely

    Managing Safely is a course for managers and supervisors in any sector and any organisation. It’s designed to give managers all they need to know to help them handle health and safety in their teams. The flexible new high impact programme covers all the main health and safety issues, and includes a session on environmental nissues. The course has eight modules and lasts for 24 hours in total. Managing Safely can be delivered over a full week or on single days or as an evening course.

    IOSH - Working Safely

    Working Safely is a one-day course for staff from any sector with no supervisory or managerial responsibility. It provides a grounding in the essentials of health and safety – everyone at work should have an understanding of why they must ‘work safely’ and this course offers exactly that. Working Safely introduces a completely new approach to health and safety training and offers all the basics in a high impact interactive package.

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety

    The National General Certificate is the most widely held health and safety qualification in the UK with over 100,000 people having gained the award since it was launched in 1989.

    What kind of people take the NEBOSH National General Certificate?

    Managers, supervisors and staff from all types of organisations who need a broad understanding of health and safety issues. The certificate helps them manage risks effectively. Many people take the NEBOSH National General Certificate as a first step in a career in health and safety. It provides a valuable overview, and is a sound basis for further professional study.

    Is this qualification recognised?

    The NEBOSH National General Certificate meets the academic requirements for Technician membership (TechIOSH) of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and Associate membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).

    The NEBOSH National General Certificate is accredited at Level 3 within the National Qualification Framework (NQF) by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales and the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland.

    What does the qualification cover?

    The NEBOSH National General Certificate covers the main legal requirements for health and safety in the UK, identification and control of workplace hazards, and the practical application of this knowledge.  The syllabus is mapped to the National Occupational Standards for Health and Safety owned by ENTO.  No previous health and safety knowledge is required but candidates should note the assessment includes a requirement to write a short report.

  • Acton Jennings - Asbestos Awareness - Typical Duration: Half Day

    Asbestos Awareness training is required to be given to those employees whose work could foreseeably expose them to asbestos such as plumbers, electricians or anyone concerned with building maintenance. Our standard asbestos awareness course includes the a range of topics as recommended by the Health & Safety Commission in their Approved Code of Practice and guidance on the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006:

    A certificate will be issued to each delegate who has completed the course. Bespoke courses can include additional elements specific to your organisation.

  • Acton Jennings - Basic Health & Safety Awareness - Typical Duration: One Day

    This course is designed to provide delegates with an appreciation and understanding of Health and Safety legislation and duties, how this is put into practice and the impact it has on us as individuals whilst at work. The course structure follows a modular style approach that will allow the delegates to gain a basic knowledge of health and safety topics that are relevant to all workplaces.
  • A certificate will be issued to each delegate who has completed the course. Bespoke courses can include additional elements specific to your organisation.

  • Acton Jennings - Risk Assessment and Control - Typical Duration: Half to One Day

    Risk assessments are required by the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and by other legislation. Employers must evaluate how work activities can give rise to accidents and ill health and subsequently decide how to control the risk.

    The course is designed to provided delegates which the tools required to be able to carry out risk assessments in the workplace and manage the implementation of any identified control measures.

  • The full one day course provides an opportunity for delegates to carry out practice assessments in the workplace if the course is held at the client's premises.

    A certificate will be issued to each delegate who has completed the course. Bespoke courses can include additional elements specific to your organisation. 

  • Acton Jennings -Manual Handling - Typical Duration: Half Day

    Manual handling remains one of the main causes of occupational injuries within the UK and is associated with more over-three-day injuries reported to the HSE than any other occupational task. Our manual handling course is designed to give delegates an understanding of basic manual handling. This is achieved by ensuring delegates have a knowledge of the legislative requirements activities, facts and figures related to back injuries, injury avoidance, an understanding of the anatomy of the back and some practical exercises.

  • A certificate will be issued to each delegate who has completed the course. Bespoke courses can include additional elements specific to your organisation.
