Small Employer's Business

Employment Services
When you
first start a business one of the last things on your mind
is writing employment contracts. Then when you have been
trading for years and there’s never been a problem and you
know all your employees and … well we could go on. The fact
is there are many reasons why employers have not issued
employment contracts.
There are,
though, many better reasons why you should issue a statement
of the main contract terms. First, it is a legal
requirement. Secondly, without clear contractual rules
committed to writing, management’s authority to manage
within the workplace is severely weakened. Thirdly, there
are financial penalties for employers who have not issued
contract statements. Those financial penalties could be
quite severe.
Even if you
have issued main contract terms, are they still up to date?
Do they
contain everything your employee needs to know about working
for you?
Acton
Jennings has created a personnel system tailored to the
needs of the small business which includes a contract,
documentation and a company handbook to issue to your
employees.
But even
when we sort out the documentation and you issue it, that
doesn’t prevent employment problems, does it? That’s true.
But it might reassure you to know that you could pick up the
phone and talk to a personnel adviser on any issue relating
to your employees.
It’s like
having your own personnel department. We will guide you
through what to do if you have the need to discipline an
employee. And it’s risk free. Yes that’s right, it’s risk
free.
Providing
that you seek our advice and follow our advice we provide:
-
cover in
respect of dealing with an employment tribunal case
brought against you..
-
Cover in
respect of any legal representation at employment
tribunal, usually by a barrister.
-
Cover in
respect of any award made against you.
Like we
said, risk free.
Health &
Safety Services
If you
employ 5 or more people you must have a written Health and
Safety Policy. That simple. You also need to bring to the
attention of your employees what’s in the policy. We can do
that for you. We can do it efficiently and cost effectively
with the minimum call upon your time.
We then
provide you with access to a qualified health & safety
advisor to provide you with telephone advice and assistance
- just like having your own health & safety department.
If you want
us to carry out a health & safety visit to your premises, we
can arrange this for you - although the cost of this is not
included in the basic package.
Not sure
how you are supposed to carry out and record your risk
assessments?
Don’t
worry, as part of the system we will provide you with easy
to use assessment pro-forma which, when completed, we can
look at and advise upon as part of the advice line.
You can
even download from our web site generic assessments to get
you started which can then be modified to meet with your
specific requirements.
So what
happens if once you have carried out your assessments you
require more technical help for, say, air monitoring, noise
assessments or testing of local exhaust ventilation systems
(LEV)?
As an
existing client of Acton Jennings, you would qualify for
preferential rates for this work to be professionally
undertaken.
We then
indemnify you. If a prosecution is brought against you by an
enforcement officer or an improvement or prohibition notice
is served where we feel it might be successfully challenged,
your legal fees are covered.
Ok - I like
what I see, how do I get it?
